Tutor for adults Member Agencies

Tutor students in Bristol, Warren, Barrington and East Providence in reading, writing, and speaking English. After completing 5 training sessions, tutors work with adults in pairs at area libraries on a flexible schedule. It is not necessary to have a teaching background or college degree. We provide the skills necessary to teach and the support to help change a student's life by helping them gain the skills they need.

HS degree or GED. Must complete 12 hours of training over 5 sessions Tutoring may take place at any public space in the East Bay area. Volunteers and students must be 18+.
Most tutors spend a between one to two hours per week tutoring their student, but this varies widely among tutor/student matches; we ask that prospective tutors plan to commit to one year (50 hours) of tutoring.

Sessions are scheduled for the following dates: Monday, May 12, 7-9 pm, Thursday, May 15, 7-9 pm, Saturday, May 17, 9am-2pm, Monday, May 19, 7-9 pm, Thursday, May 22, 7-9 pm. All classes are required with one make-up allowed.
To register, call (401) 247-2177 or see our website at www.lveastbay.org. The training is free, but we do ask prospective tutors to pay $25 to cover the cost of each tutor binder and manual, which will be yours to keep and use after the workshops.
Literacy Volunteers, an affiliate of ProLiteracy America, is a non-profit organization that offers free, confidential tutoring programs for adult learners in literacy and conversational English.
