To protect people, and property during times of disasters.etc. We are a 3 truck department, water support company with full firefighting capabilities. We also have a utility type truck for brush/grass fires,basement pumping,traffic control, and downed power lines. Water rescues, and evacuations are performed with our boat.The department building is an emergency shelter under the direction of the city civil preparedness agency.We participate with service during the 4th of July fireworks display at Candlewood Lake.
Description:
Training is provided by the company. Perspective Candidates must be high school graduates, or it's equivalent. Candidates must live within the district for quick response. Candidates must be at least 18 years old. We will allow new members under 18,with parental consent, but they cannot respond to calls.Members under 18 could still perform in house support.such as[preliminary training, being familiar with the very basic concepts of firefighting ].flower sales,truck preparation for parades etc.A criminal background check is required. Candidates must be able to pass a physical (certain waivers may apply). Training is as follows: Firefighter-1; National Incident Management System {NIMS], Incident Command System {ICS}, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Bloodbourne Pathogens. Candidates with a Commercial Drivers License {CDL} must complete EVOC Emergency Vehicle Operation Class. Parade uniforms are provided by the company. New members will be placed on a probationary period of 1 year while he or she undergoes training.The company is in compliance under ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act). This training meets OSHA, FEMA, NFPA standards and regulations,and the standard operating procedures of the Danbury Fire Dept.
History:
Organized in 1951 by farmer Harold Brundage,other farmers, and homeowners of the King Street area. After a long, and drastic need, the residents decided to organize.The first meeting was held at the King Street United Church Of Christ.July 1951.Danbury had 2 municipalities at the time. (city and town).Town fire protection was a distance away.Fire depts. from other districts in Danbury had to respond.So history speaks for itself. An idea!!, A dream!!. 50 plus years,and still going strong!.Danbury's youngest fire dept.
