The Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse is dedicated to promoting healty, substance-free lifestyles. We help families and community coalitions to support one another in the goal of keeping our children safe and alcohol, tobacco and drug-free.
Description:
Our primary purpose is to develop and coordinate needed services in the field of substance abuse in Northwestern Connecticut. These services span the continuum of care that includes the community awareness and education, prevention, intervention, treatment and aftrcare. We specialize in state-of-the-art prevention programming and supervise locally based prevention councils. Our coalition serves twenty-two municipalities in Northwest Connecticut. We are a resource center maintaining and distributing current information about: prevention programming, emerging and prevailing substance abuse issues in our region of the state and local treatment services available to those in need. We help local prevention councils and service agencies to: share programming utilizing dollars in an efficient manner and imlement effective, proven prevention strategies in their schools and their communities.
History:
Incorporated in 1994, The Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse, Inc. is a regional planning and action council dedicated to the prevention and treatment of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. We are part of Regional Action Councils (RACs) and are partially funded by the Departmant of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
