Interlude, Inc provides housing, support services and advocacy to people with mental illness to help them become more independent in their community. We accomplish this through two residential programs with home like environments where 24 hour on-site staff is available, and through an Outreach program in which case managers visit clients in their own homes.
Description:
Interlude Inc provides three levels of residential services to men and women who are diagnosed with a primary psychiatric disorder and/or a co-occuring substance abuse disorder. Eligible clients must be age 18 or over. Referrals come through the Greater Danbury Mental Health Authority or directly from those who inquire at Interlude's Administrative Office.
History:
Interlude Inc. was founded by Celine Karraker in 1978. The original program was a half-way house designed to offer a non-institutional, safe, family style home for men and women with mental illness. How did she choose our name? Celine, an amateur musician, wanted to create a program that would become an 'Interlude' between sickness and health. Although recovering from mental illness is often a complicated journey, Celine knew that people with mental illness could focus on their recovery in a safe environment with a staff to provide counseling and case management services. Interlude Inc has grown from a staff of five serving ten clients to a staff of 30 serving 41 clients in our residential programs.
