CRC co-chairs the COMMUNITY ALLIANCE FOR DANBURY YOUTH (CADY),a community wide group comprised of parents,individuals and organizations interested in promoting and sustaining afterschool programs in Danbury.
Description:
CADY has 5 distinct committees: steering,finance,community support,key champions and evaluation. Each community meets monthly, the Steering Committee being comprised of each Committee chairperson.Within the past year the Alliance received grants to hire a consultant to complete concrete activities related to sustainability, e.g.development of a proposal boilerplate, completion of an interests and needs survey of children and parents. CADY membership includes:local YMCA; Danbury Youth Services; West Conn; Girl Scouts; Danbury Public Library; Danbury School and Business Collaborative; Chamber of Commerce; United Way.The Mayor of Danbury serves as Honorary Chair.
History:
In 2000, the CRC sponsored a series of community-wide visioning sessions related to afterschool programs.In addition,using a model developed by the Finance Project of Wash,D.C.,the CRC conducted a community-wide afterschool needs and interests survey. In 2001,CADY was formally initiated.In its short history, it has conducted the annual "Lights On" [for afterschool] community wide event which feaures exhibits, face painting, state and local proclamations as well as a ceremonial turning on of lights. Also, CADY members were invited this year to make a presentation to the state-level Afterschool Alliance regarding the development of CADY.
