The purpose of the Corporation shall be to operate a railway museum in Danbury, CT, to educate the public as to the history of railroading and the role of the railroads as part of our local and national heritage.
Description:
The Danbury Railway Museum is located in the historic 6 acre railyard in Danbury. At present we have over 70 pieces of equipment being restored that represent a variety of New England and special rail history. We are located in the restored train station built by the New Haven RR in 1903 at 120 White Street. There are guided tours daily (closed Mon), train rides in the yard Sat & Sun April-Dec. Special events, Easter Bunny, Pumpkin Patch, Santa Trains, others.Extensive RR gift shop.
History:
Founded in 1994, and opening to the public in 1996 at the 120 White Street restored Train Station.Over 500 members, 10,000 visitors in 2003 from all over the world. Wed night meetings and slide show, public invited. Restoration ongoing constantly, most work happening on Saturdays all year round.
