One on One Mentor Program
The goal of this program is to match Volunteer Mentors with selected children & adolescents involved with DCF. Mentors can provide their mentees with the following:

 Be role models to children & young adults in DCF care.
 Link the mentee with appropriate community contacts.
 Offer support, strength and reassurance.
 Provide assistance as young adults prepare for independent living.

Background
 The Mentor Program began in March 2001 and is funded by The Department of Children and Families.

 Mentors are men and women that have a desire to help children & young adults currently involved with DCF.

 Prospective Mentees are youth ages 8-21.

Referrals

 The Department of Children and Families refers youth to the Mentor Program.

 Family and Children's Aid encourages adults who are interested in being a positive part in the lives of these children are encouraged to apply to become a mentor.

 The Program Coordinator interviews prospective Mentors. Thorough background checks are completed prior to matching the mentees with a mentor.

Training provided.
Background screening is required.
