 One on One Mentor Program The goal of this program is to match Volunteer Mentors with selected children & adolescents involved with DCF. Mentors can provide their mentees with the following: Be role models to children & young adults in DCF care. Link the mentee with appropriate community contacts. Offer support, strength and reassurance. Provide assistance as young adults prepare for independent living. Background The Mentor Program began in March 2001 and is funded by The Department of Children and Families. Mentors are men and women that have a desire to help children & young adults currently involved with DCF. Prospective Mentees are youth ages 8-21. Referrals The Department of Children and Families refers youth to the Mentor Program. Family and Children's Aid encourages adults who are interested in being a positive part in the lives of these children are encouraged to apply to become a mentor. The Program Coordinator interviews prospective Mentors. Thorough background checks are completed prior to matching the mentees with a mentor. MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD TO BE A MENTOR. Training provided. Background screening is required.
