Our mission is to maintain and enhance the unique charm, character and historic significance of downtown Darien, while ensuring a variety of retail, dining and housing as well as social and culture activities for residents and visitors of all ages.
Description:
Darien Revitalization is a private, not for profit organization established for the purpose of promoting development, revitalization and improvement in the downtown area of Darien, CT. It is a CT Main Street Town, A Program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. We currently have 4 volunteer committees: Design, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Organization. Design increases the physical value of downtown through both new and rehabilitation construction and through the design of public spaces that will attract more people to walk and gather on a regular basis. Promotion increases the social value of downtown through branding, retail promotions and special events: Father's Day Car Show, Christmas Holiday Stroll, Tilley Park Concert Series, and Artworks. Economic Restructuring increases the economic value of downtown by diversifying it with an appropriate mix of curent and new businesses suitable for the given marketplace. Organization increases the civic value of downtown by insuring cooperation among groups that play a role in the downtown area. Also, organization is resposonsible for Volunteer Recruitment and Public Relations.
History:
Darien Revitalization began in 2005 by applying and getting accepted, for membership, into the CT Main Street program. We then formed 4 volunteer committees: Design, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Organization. We have managed to get the DOT to remove duplicate signage downtown, helped property owners find a well suited tenant, for downtown Darien, new construction includes mixed use properties: insuring that people can live downtown, helped merchants by sponsoring workshops, brought residents downtown through our special events.
