The mission of the Jewish Historical Society is to be our community resource for discovering, explaining, preserving, developing interest in, and enjoying the Jewish history of our region and elsewhere.
Description:
The activities of the society include maintaining archives of the Jewish presence in the region, outreach programs, speakers, and the Judaica Library located in the Jewish Community Center. The Library is run by volunteers. It is open to the public and maintains a collection of books on all aspects of Jewish life, both ancient and modern. People come into the Library to borrow books, do research, use the computer, relax, read a book. We try to maintain a friendly, inviting and pleasant atmosphere for people of all ages.
History:
The Library was started in 1985. It has about 3,000 books which include modern novels, reference materials, a holocaust collection, genealogical information, children's books and much more. Our goal is to be open from early morning to early evening so that as many people as possible can enjoy our resources.
