Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic is celebrating its 48th season calling Stamford its home. SYAP's mission is to provide quality music education and outstanding performance opportunities to challenge talented musicians from grades 3 - 12. In so doing, young people learn the value of cooperation and discipline in attaining excellence on their instrument and in developing a life-long love of music. In addition, the organization enriches the community in the presentation of live concert events in the Stamford area which draw audience from the surrounding region.

Description:
Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic was founded by Salvatore Princiotti in 1960 and he continues as Conductor of the senior orchestra and music director to this day. The group currently sponsors a Young String Ensemble, for beginning string players, Young people's Symphony, for intermediate-level players, and Young Artists Philharmonic, for advanced music students, two Flute Choirs, two Jazz Ensembles, a Summer Jazz Workshop and an Outreach Strings Program for economically disadvantaged students at Waterside School.

History:
Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic has been serving talented music students in the region for 48 years, regardless of race, gender, or financial ability to pay tuition. The orchestras present three subscription concerts each season at the Stamford Center for the Arts. The organization enjoys a marvelous community alliance with Union Baptist Church, where rehearsals are held all year in exchange for a Holiday Concert presented each year by the orchestras with proceeds earmarked for the Autumn Gold Senior Program of Union Baptist Church. In addition, the senior orchestra has been honored over the years to perform for such significant events as the Re-Dedication of the Statue of Liberty, for the World's Fair, for the first President Bush, in conjunction with AmeriCares at Grand Central Station, on tour twice in Italy, and also in Quebec City.
