The mission of Darien Book Aid Plan is to build a foundation of peace, understanding and friendship by the free distribution of books.

Description:
Darien Book Aid Plan is an all volunteer, nonprofit organization which ships books upon request to more than 80 countries each year. We send books to Peace Corps Volunteers, schools, libraries, hospitals, community organizations and others in need. All the books we ship are donated by local residents, publishers, schools and others.

We do not receive United Way or government funding.

History:
Founded in 1949 by a group of local women, Darien Book Aid Plan first collected and sent reading material to war-ravaged Europe. Over the years our mission has not changed. We continue to provide appropriate reading material to those who cannot afford the luxury of books.

Nice experience from Geraldine
I volunteer at the Darien Book Aid, it is very rewarding to send books all over the world ! It is easy, you just have to pack some books or to involve to help on communication for example.

DBAP is a wonderful and rewarding place to volunteer!
Darien Boook Aid Plan sends books by request to peace corp members, schools, and other community organizations around the world. There are children and adults all over the world for whom books are not available. Being a part of improving literacy for those who may not otherwise have a chance is extremely rewarding. Everyone who volunteers at the Book Aid is very dedicated and fun to be around.
