Jewish Family Services of Greenwich (JFS) is a nondiscriminatory human service agency whose mission is to improve the quality of life for families and individuals of all ages living in the community.

Description:
JFS offers an array of home care services under the heading of The ElderCare Connection, designed to help older adults live independently in their homes. At the heart of these services is the agency's "Supermarketing for Seniors" program, which provides grocery-shopping assistance for the frail elderly. Other services include Friendly Visitors, Senior Adult Discussion Group, the Chore and Carpentry Service, Snow Angels, Let's Do Lunch, and Counseling. Eldercare Management Services, another agency program, serves as a source of referral for all of these programs, since calls received by the agency from concerned friends and relatives, regarding needy seniors, are processed through this service. Other agency programs for the general population include parenting groups and workshops, outreach services and educational programs for interfaith families, a refugee resettlement and acculturation program and immigration services with the only licensed INS counselor in Fairfield County, psychotherapy services for individuals and families, spiritual care services for Greenwich Hospital patients, and teen community service opportunities. JFS also runs "The Adoption Connection," a licensed program that provides state-required home-study and post-placement services for families who are eligible for adoption under Connecticut law, as well as education and support programs focused on child rearing and the healthy family. JFS also runs The Jewish Health and Healing Center, which offers support, counseling and education to members of the Greenwich community who face physical, emotional or spiritual challenges. Our newest initiative is JumpStart!, which offers private comprehensive college counseling and educational services.

History:
In 1983, a dynamic group of men and women established roots for a new organization called Jewish Family Services of Greenwich (JFS). Its mission, to meet the social service needs of local Jewish families, was warranted by the emergence of a sizeable Jewish community in the Town of Greenwich. Embracing core Jewish values, this hands-on organization would become an activist for senior citizens, an advocate for immigrants, an educator of adoptive parents, a guide to teens and children, and a source of tangible support and counseling for Jewish community members facing serious personal challenges.
