The George Washington Carver Community Center is a multi-purpose agency that fosters positive development of the whole child, and serves families and the community, by providing educational, social, cultural and recreational programs.

Description:
During the school the Carver Center provides after school services from kindergarten to 12th grade. The CASPER (Carver After School Program of Education and Recreation) Club gives under deserved, minority elementary school children a safe after school environment to develop educational, social, and recreational skills. CASPER students participate in tutoring, structured recreation, socialization, and recreational skills. The Jr. and Sr. YDP (Youth Development Program) provides at-risk teens from middle school and high school with tutoring, college preparation and scholarship assistance. YDP students are also eligible for our annual college tours, in which high school students tour a variety of colleges, both local and out of state in the fall and spring. The goal for these youngsters is to motivate them to reach for post-secondary education and to provide the support they need to do so successfully.

History:
Carver is an essential support system for low-income children in Norwalk. Our purpose is to motivate our children to pursue college and become successful members of the community. For 68 years, Carver has provided meaningful and enriching programs to help at-risk youth succeed in school and the community. Throughout the year we provide meaningful and enriching programs for over 3,500 individuals, three-quarters of whom were under 21 years of age. Ninety percent of the families serves are low-income to moderate income and eighty-one percent are single parent households.
