The mission of the YWCA is to “create opportunities for women’s growth, leadership and power and to eliminate racism wherever it exists.”

Description:
The YWCA has provided a wide range of services and activities for Tucson women and their families since our organization was founded in 1917. Early services included a residence for women, swimming lessons, health and fitness classes, child day care, and shelter for victims of domestic violence. The programs of the YWCA Tucson have changed as the needs of women have changed and as other community organizations began to offer similar services. Currently, the YWCA serves over 20,000 individuals in the following programs and activities each year:

Bright Futures - A leadership development and scholarship program for middle/high school girls

Girls with Tools - A wood-working and skill building program for girls 8 – 14

Journey to a Hate-Free Millennium - A community education program for youth

Let’s Get Real - An anti-bullying program for middle school students

PHASE/YWorks - An employment development and training for low-income women in transition

TECHgyrls® - A program to encourage girls 9-14 to consider careers in technology and engineering

Understanding Racism and It’s Time to Talk Forums on Race - Community education programs

Women & Money - Financial education for women and girls

Women on the Move Awards - A women’s leadership recognition event established in 1982

Women’s Counseling Network - A long-term counseling program for low-income women available free of charge

Women’s Leadership Program and Women’s Leadership Conference - A leadership development program for women

Your Sister’s Closet - An employment readiness program for unemployed and homeless women
