 Help protect the environment by keeping hazardous materials out of our landfills! The Household Hazardous Waste program is seeking additional volunteers to assist at monthly HHW collection outreach sites including Southwest Tucson (Irvington west of I-19), Northwest (Ina & Oracle), and Eastside (Speedway 1/2 mile east of Kolb). Registration and attendance at a two-hour orientation and training session is required in advance of volunteering. Once trained, monthly volunteer opportunities are available (approximately 4 hours per day) on the first Saturday of each month. Volunteers will be collecting antifreeze, batteries, motor oil, paint, computers and many other items from community members at special outreach locations. From central Tucson/south of Prince Rd., travel west on Prince Rd. Continue just west of I-10, and turn right; follow the signs to the Emissions Testing Center; the road curves several times through an business/industrial park to Sweetwater Dr.; the Household Hazardous Waste program is on the north side of Sweetwater Dr. just west of the I-10 frontage road. SPECIAL NOTE: Due to construction the Prince Rd. exit for northbound traffic may not be available from I-10. If necessary, continue north and exit at El Camino del Cerro/Ruthrauff, immediately taking two left turns to get back on southbound I-10.
From Northwest Tucson/El Camino del Cerro, Ruthrauff/Wetmore and all points north of Prince Rd.: Take I-10 to the Prince Rd. exit; immediately after exiting the freeway, turn right on Sweetwater Dr. The Household Hazardous Waste program location is on the north side of Sweetwater Dr. just west of the I-10 frontage road. |
