Knoxville Leadership Foundation (KLF) is a local faith-based organization, founded in 1994, that mobilizes leaders from all walks of life to tackle our city’s biggest problems. As followers of Jesus Christ, we seek to connect people of faith, and others of goodwill to renew our city — creating a better life for people who are poor, vulnerable, and on the margins. Founded in July 2004, Amachi is an initiative of Knoxville Leadership Foundation in partnership with local congregations, The University of Tennessee College of Social Work, and many others.
Description:
We accomplish our mission through work in five main initiatives. First, our Abstinence Initiative works to combat the epidemic of teen pregnancies and STDs in a peer-to-peer learning model in schools and churches. Amachi Knoxville is a mentoring program that focuses on children of incarcerated parents. The Center for Communities helps small to medium sized nonprofit organizations to increase their capacity to be more effective and efficient with their funds and time. KLF had two initiatives that deal with housing in the inner-city of Knoxville. Operation Backyard uses volunteers to preserve housing stock by assisting with minor-home-repairs and Neighborhood Housing adds housing stock with affordable new homes.
History:
Knoxville Leadership Foundation has been meeting the needs of inner city Knoxville and the surrounding area since 1994. Since then, KLF has had over 19 initiatives that have focused on needs as varied as health care within the inner city to mentoring children of prisoners. We seek to reconcile people to each other and to Jesus Christ.
