The National Kidney Foundation works to assist those who are battling kidney disease, to educate the public about kidney disease, and to increase awareness of the importance of organ donation, thereby making lives better.
Description:
The NKF works with those who have some risk factors that could lead to serious problems. When someone is on dialysis, a family lives with it; when someone dies and organ donation is a possibility, a family decides; when early identification of kidney failure occurs, a family participates in the treatment; and when someone needs a transplant, a family waits. The NKF is dedicated to making lives better for famlies throughout a variety of programs.
History:
For 35 years, kidney patients in Knox County have been able to turn to the NKFETN for assistance. The NKF works for, cares about, and represents hundreds of East Tennesseans, from the child who wets the bed to the diabetic mother with high blood pressure to the grandfather on dialysis.
