RFB&D'S Vision: For all people to have equal access to the printed word. RFB&D'S Mission: To create opportunities for individual success by providing, and promoting the effective use of, accessible educational materials.
Description:
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic provides more than 220,000 people with print disabilities with the textbooks they need to learn and succeed. We need volunteers to help us record these textbooks. Whatever your area of interest or expertise, you will find that volunteering at RFB&D is a very fulfilling experience. We could not do what we do without our talented and amazing volunteers. Our volunteer workforce is a unique and precious resource — the heart of RFB&D.
History:
Recording for the Blind® was founded by Anne T. Macdonald in 1948 to provide recorded educational textbooks to veterans blinded in WWII who wanted to attend college under the GI Bill of Rights. Since that time, RFB&D’s membership, programs and services have greatly expanded and diversified. In 1995, we changed our name to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic to serve all people with print disabilities. Each year, we provide more than 250,000 recorded books to individuals in kindergarten through graduate school and beyond.
