Effective law enforcement programs require the concern, active participation and cooperation of the citizens to succeed. No matter how well organized, equipped, or highly motivated a law enforcement agency may be, it cannot function effectively without the cooperation and involvement of citizens such as yourself in the community. The Knox County Sheriff's Office, under the direction of the Special Services Division, offers numerous opportunities for local residents to exercise their civic pride to become involved in community policing efforts. Volunteer programs include: V.I.P. (Volunteers in Policing) SCAN (Senior Citizens Awareness Network) Chaplains Corps
History:
Knox County was established in June of 1792 in Tennessee and the Governor of Tennessee at that time, William Blount, commissioned Robert Houston as Knox County's first Sheriff. Thus began a long standing tradition of service to the citizens of Knox County by the Knox County Sheriff's Office. Since that time, Knox County has seen 44 sheriff's including present sheriff, Jimmy "J.J." Jones who was appointed on February 29, 2008.
