Our official mission is to engage, educate and inspire through the exhibition, collection, and interpretation of visual art. There has been no great culture without great art. This speaks for itself in terms of the importance of the arts to East Tennesseans.
Description:
We exhibit the work of local, regional, national, and international artists and also feature performing artists at Alive After Five (held most Friday evenings) and as well as through collaborations with area theater, dance companies, and others. We are open 10am-5pm Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday. We are open 10am-8pm Fridays and 1-5pm Sundays. Admission is free Tuesdays and Fridays after 5pm and all the time for children 17 and under. Admission for non-member adults is $5.
History:
The Knoxville Museum of Art evolved from the Dulin Gallery of Art which had been housed in the Dulin Mansion on Kingston Pike until the museum opened at its present facility on the western edge of World's Fair Park. Designed by world-renowned museum architect Edward Larrabee Barnes, the 2007 (posthumous) recipient of the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal, the grand opening of the Clayton Building was held in March 1990. KMA is a private, community-supported institution. We rely on sponsorships and an active volunteer program to fill essential positions. Please visit our website for details.
