After-School Program

Last updated on April 11, 2008

Youth Connection is an after school program for high school adolescents. The goal of the program is to work with students with disabilities on social, personal, and employment/vocational skills. As well, the program will allow students a safe, structured, and accessible place to socialize, receive homework help, exercise, and have fun. The program will be active each full day that district 186 is in session and will operate from 3 pm to 6pm.

UCP is looking for volunteers to assist children who participate in the program. Volunteers will serve as an assistant to the coordinator in helping meet the goals of the students in the program. Volunteers are needed immediately for the months of April and May, and again for the 2008-2009 school year starting in August. The program meets daily during the week in Springfield, and volunteer opportunities are flexible.

No experience is necessary to be a volunteer. Support and training will be provided to all volunteers. In addition to the opportunity to build relationships and to explore possible career interests, this is an excellent way for students to get services hours throughout the school year, and for all volunteers to do something for the underserved in their community. Individual and group participation is welcomed.
