The Mission of the Community Lifeline Center is to assist in improving the well being of people by providing crisis support services.
Description:
Each month an average of 400 families either telephone or come in person to the office of the Community Lifeline Center, seeking assistance. The average income for a family of four served by the Community Lifeline Center is less than $800.00 per month. The majority of the clients served by the Community Lifeline Center are employed, but are usually below national poverty guidelines. The Community Lifeline Center does not assist people who are chronically unemployed and make no effort to help themselves. The Community Lifeline Center provides clients with *EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE only. The focus of the Center's programs is to get clients and families to become self-supporting as quickly as possible.
History:
The Community Lifeline Center began operating in July, 1989, providing information and referral services for the residents of McKinney. Over the years the agency has reached out to meet the growing needs of the communities in surrounding areas, as well as increasing and diversifying its program base. Funding is provided by the United Way of Collin County, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), TXU Energy, TXU Gas, the McKinney Ministerial Alliance, local businesses, and the people of northern Collin County. The Center offers emergency financial assistance to families in temporary crisis situations. This support includes, but is not limited to: rent, mortgage, utilities, food, clothing, gas, dental, medical, and prescription assistance. After the first year of operation, the service delivery area was expanded beyond McKinney, to include the cities of Altoga, Anna, Blue Ridge, Celina, Copeville, Farmersville, Josephine, Lavon, Lowry Crossing, Melissa, Nevada, New Hope, Princeton, Prosper, Westminster, and Weston; the northern portion of Collin County.
