Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that develop spirit, mind, and body for all. The core values taught include; Caring, Responsibility, Honesty and Respect.
Description:
The YMCA READS Program recruits, trains and matches screened mentors with students in 1st and 2nd grade, recommended by their teachers as needing assistance in their reading skills. These student-mentor pairs work together using the SIPPS scripted curriculum twice a week to improve the students reading abilities. The program philosophy is to assist students to reach their potential in a positive and encouraging atmosphere to develop a love of literature.
History:
As a not-for-profit community service organization, the Charlotte County Family YMCA provides services that include child care (we are the largest, not-for-profit child care provider in Charlotte County), youth sports, adult recreation, health/fitness programs for youth, teens, adults, and seniors, arts and humanity programs, aquatic swim instruction and recreation, family social activities, and senior social activities. Our purpose is to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities, and our foundation is not to turn anyone away from YMCA programs and/or membership because they do not have the financial resources.
