History:
2-1-1
Get Connected. Get Answers:

For many of you reading this article (Feeling Fit July 16th, 2006) the concept of calling Charlotte 2-1-1 may be nothing new. After all the idea began in Georgia and has been adopted in 40 percent of states across the nation. The good news is that over 50 percent of Florida counties have established a 2-1-1 network. Charlotte County began its 2-1-1 service on July 1, 2005. Before Charlotte 2-1-1, the County did have the Elder Help Line offering information and access to needed services.

Charlotte 2-1-1 began to take shape when the County hired Dr. Faezeh Andrews, 2-1-1 Supervisor. On Friday July 1, 2005, at 2:11 p.m., Charlotte County Human Services, the United Way of Charlotte County and the Center for Abuse and Rape Emergencies (CARE) partnered to implement 2-1-1 in Charlotte County.

The Charlotte 2-1-1 staff not only mans the phone lines, but creates a daily activity log to show what is happening and available in Charlotte County on a day by day basis. The staff works Monday through Friday 8-5pm. However, the 2-1-1 line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 52 weeks a year. No holidays for these people. Support from C.A.R.E. staff answers the phones daily after 5 p.m., weekends, and on holidays. The exception to this is during a time of emergency i.e., (dare I say it?) during a hurricane warning. When this occurs, it is all hands on deck around the clock 24 hours serving the public until all is safe once again.
