Avera McKennan provides health care services via the hospital, Hospice, and physician clinics. Guided by Christian values, our goal is to treat all patients, guests, staff and volunteers with compassion and hospitality.
Description:
Avera McKennan provides volunteer opportunities to folks in our community from age 14 to 96! Last year, over 870 people served others by volunteering at Avera McKennan. We have over 80 different areas in which volunteers serve. Whether you are looking for something to occupy your time, a way to help others, or want to learn new skills, you'll find what you're looking for here!
History:
Philanthropist, Helen McKennan, donated the money for a hospital "that would be different, attending to not only patient's physical needs....but their spiritual and emotional needs as well." Begun by the Presentation Sisters, the hospital was founded in 1911. Avera McKennan is part of the Avera Health System which includes more than 95 hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, physician clinics and other health services. Avera comes from the Latin word, avere, which means "to be well." Our wish is for physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness for all.

Warm, caring, and supportive is how I would describe Avera McKennan and its staff. The appreciation I receive from the staff and patients is incredible. It is the best job in the world! posted by JoyceQ on December 20, 2007 |
