Seeing a first time dad respond to hearing "daddy" for the first time, watching a little boy's delight as he celebrates his birthday with mom, or watching a grandma rock her granddaughter to sleep, all are precious moments volunteers at FVC get to be a part of.

Volunteers at the Family Visitation Center are responsible for ensuring children have a positive visitation with one or more caregivers in a safe, child-focused setting. Actual Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Greet children and ensure their safe exchange to the identified visitation room
  2. Monitor and interact with children awaiting the arrive of their parent(s) or other visiting adult
  3. Record adult/child interactions in a neutral and factual manner.
  4. Maintain confidentiality when dealing with data related to the patients, staff, that you work with at the center
  5. Collect fees and distribute receipts
  6. The Family Visitation Center provides quality, informative, hands-on training to all volunteers and ensure volunteers are comfortable with responsibilities before actual responsibilities are implemented.

    Volunteers must be a high school graduate and be willing to commit to 2-4 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.

    Other Qualifications include:

    1. Professional/educational/volunteer experience working with children and families
    2. Proficient written and verbal communication skills
    3. Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate decisions as needed
    4. Demonstrate the ability to care and communicate appropriately with visitors
    5. Must be friendly and hospitable to guests

    Conflict Resolution
    Cultural Sensitivity and diversity
    Child Development
    Effects of Divorce and Separation
    Child Abuse Detection and Reporting
    Family Violence
    Substance Abuse Education
    Family Court Processes
