 Seeing a first time dad respond to hearing "daddy" for the first time, watching a little boy's delight as he celebrates his birthday with mom, or watching a grandma rock her granddaughter to sleep, all are precious moments volunteers at FVC get to be a part of. Volunteers at the Family Visitation Center are responsible for ensuring children have a positive visitation with one or more caregivers in a safe, child-focused setting. Actual Duties and responsibilities include:
- Greet children and ensure their safe exchange to the identified visitation room
- Monitor and interact with children awaiting the arrive of their parent(s) or other visiting adult
- Record adult/child interactions in a neutral and factual manner.
- Maintain confidentiality when dealing with data related to the patients, staff, that you work with at the center
- Collect fees and distribute receipts
The Family Visitation Center provides quality, informative, hands-on training to all volunteers and ensure volunteers are comfortable with responsibilities before actual responsibilities are implemented. Volunteers must be a high school graduate and be willing to commit to 2-4 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months. Other Qualifications include:
- Professional/educational/volunteer experience working with children and families
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate decisions as needed
- Demonstrate the ability to care and communicate appropriately with visitors
- Must be friendly and hospitable to guests
Training is provided in the areas of:
Conflict Resolution Cultural Sensitivity and diversity Child Development Effects of Divorce and Separation Child Abuse Detection and Reporting Family Violence Substance Abuse Education Family Court Processes
