To provide free income tax form preparation to middle- and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.
Description:
AARP Tax-Aide is a nationwide, volunteer-run program. In NH, over 200 volunteers helped nearly 6,400 taxpayers with their 2004 tax forms. Volunteers share in setting policies and most administrative responsibilities. Volunteer counselors provide all service-level tax counseling. Instructors provide tax training to counselors. Volunteer coordinators and specialists administer the program and local, district, state, and regional levels.
History:
Nearly 32,000 volunteers provided tax preparation help to nearly 2 million taxpayers nationwide last year. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have been helping the taxpayers of NH for over 20 years. While, when we started almost all volunteers were tax preparers doing paper returns, most of the returns we prepare are now done using computers. Many of our volunteers do administrative, support, and computer related tasks rather than tax preparation.
