The Carroll County RSVP strives to serve older Americans and the community by matching potential volunteers with non-profit agencies who need and value their time, expertise and enthusiasm. It provides opportunities for older adults to stay active in their community and at the same time provides services to the non-profit agencies in the county.
Description:
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is a clearing house in Carroll County, providing volunteers to 84 non-profit agencies in the county. The volunteers can be found in libaries, schools, food pantries, nursing homes, hospitals,humane society, chamber of commerce booths,medical transportation for the needy,the Material Girls (a quilting group),blood drives, senior advocacy groups, museum, delivery of meals on wheels program.
History:
The Carroll County RSVP program was created under the Older Americans Act in 1971. It was one of the first 13 programs to be started in the United States. There has been three project directors of the program to date. RSVP has grown from 22 agencies and 150 volunteers in 1977 to 84 agencies and 480 volunteers today. RSVP provides a yearly recognition program to all its volunteers.
