New Hampshire Pro Bono Referral Program
Last updated on July 11, 2008

New Hampshire Pro Bono is committed to providing low-income families and individuals with access to legal advice and representation involving critical civil (non-criminal) legal issues through linkages with volunteer attorneys.

Description:
Access to a lawyer's services can help stabilize and improve the lives of families, children, people with disabilities, seniors and other low-income people facing serious legal problems or issues. Pro Bono coordinates the volunteer services of private attorneys to provide eligible community members with free legal services on a variety of civil legal matters, including divorce, parenting rights and responsibilities, domestic violence, bankruptcy, special education, federal income tax disputes, homelessness prevention and other key issues. Through its special DOVE or Domestic Violence Emergency Project, Pro Bono partners with crisis services, including A Safe Place, to provide victims of domestic violence with expedited legal representation for final restraining (protective)order hearings.

History:
Pro Bono was created close to three decades ago to provide an organized way for private attorneys to assist indigent people with their civil legal needs. While methods and strategies of delivery may vary over the years, Pro Bono's mission as detailed above remains the same.
