The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is a private non-profit educational institution.
Our mission is to advance understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire's natural world.

Description:
The Center features four self-guided trails for visitors to explore including the Gephart Trail with live native New Hampshire wildlife in trailside enclosures. Live animals represent species native to the area. Our Trails are open to the public May 1 through Nov. 1.

Visitors can experience the magic of "Golden Pond" and hear the stories of the natural forces that created the lakes, wildlife that make the lakes so special, and people who have enjoyed the lakes for over 5,000 years on our pontoon boat tours of Squam Lake, made famous in the movie "On Golden Pond."

Over 25,000 school children and teachers from preschool to high school visit the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center annually. Through our educational programming, they learn about the natural world and the important role it plays in our quality of life.

Kirkwood Gardens is a three acre garden at the western vista of The Holderness Inn. Included is a fern garden, a butterfly garden, and a garden displaying a selection of shrubs and flowers adapted to northern New England climate which are particularly attractive to birds. Kirkwood Gardens is located on Route 3 next to The Nature Gift Shop and is open to the public,
free of charge.

The Center offers indoor and outdoor natural science programs throughout the year for people of all ages featuring live animals, survival techniques, Archaeology, astronomy, animal tracking and more.
