AARP Tax-Aide seeks volunteers to help take the strain out of tax preparation for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to the elderly. We are the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. We provide volunteers with training in the use of our tax preparation software and tax law. Those interested in helping but not interested in preparing tax returns, we need people who can help organize client flow through our busier sites. Tax-Aide volunteers worked at 60 locations throughout NH in 2008 to help nearly 20,000 taxpayers file nearly 11,000 federal tax returns. Our clients received nearly $20,000,000 in refunds and rebates, including more than $1,500,000 in earned income tax credits and $1,000,000 in child tax credits. Our ideal volunteer is a computer literate individual interested in working with others and helping people. We provide training for volunteers who will work at our tax preparation sites in Claremont, Concord, Dover,Derry, Epping, Exeter, Hampton, Laconia, Lancaster, Lebanon, Littleton, Manchester, Nashua, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Rochester, Salem, Seabrook, and other sites around the state. Our training covers tax preparation and the use of tax preparation software. For those with no prior tax preparation experience, this is an excellent intern opportunity. We provide text-book and internet training prior to the tax season and new volunteers are usually assigned to work with helpful experienced tax preparers who able able to mentor and help them.
Most of our volunteers do tax preparation, and we provide training in tax law and use of tax preparation software for these individuals. We seek:
- computer literate volunteers interested in doing tax preparation,
- volunteers with organizational or communications skills.
