People living at or near poverty are not strangers to income tax problems, whether due to job loss, domestic violence or other issues. The Pro Bono Program has a special project devoted to helping people confronting federal income tax disputes through the donated legal services of volunteer attorneys. Accountants are needed to prepare federal income tax returns and perform related activities that support the efforts of Pro Bono attorneys in resolving tax controversies, thus helping low-income families and seniors maintain their basic income and their eligibility for the earned income tax credit as appropriate. Volunteers should be sensitive to poverty-related issues, be certified as professional public accountants and carry their own professional liability insurance.
