The Claymont Community Center is an independent non-profit organization which strives to meet the changing needs of our community. Along with our tenant partners, we provide an array of community and human services for Claymont and the surrounding areas.
Description:
There are about 30 programs and agencies operating in our facility, such as Boys & Girls Club, Girls, Inc., the Public Library, State Service Center, Brandywine Child Care, Delaware Financial Literacy Institute and Head Start. In addition to agencies who are permanently housed in the facility, we provide space for meetings and other occasional uses both during the day and in the evenings. We directly administer six programs focusing on eduction, primary healthcare, mental health, crisis alleviation, senior services, and enrichment. Each year, the Center is visited over 200,000 times, due to its unique one-stop shopping concept.
History:
The agency was founded in 1974 to meet youth and family needs in Claymont. Over time, the scope of services has expanded to include addressing the physical, emotional, educational, recreational and cultural needs of all area residents. Our 120,000 sq. foot facility was formerly Claymont High School.
