Our mission is to help build the physical, emotional and mental well-being of all people, particularly those with special needs, by establishing an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and love in an equestrian environment.
Description:
Thorncroft offers horseback riding instruction for people of all ages and abilities. We have private and group lessons six days a week, morning through evening. We also have special programs with area schools and organizations that serve those with special needs. We have special events such as horse shows and summer camp.
History:
Thorncroft’s history dates back to 1969, when Saunders Dixon pioneered what is now one of the oldest and largest therapeutic riding centers in the country. Mr. Dixon had just one goal in mind: to improve the lives of those with special needs. He began working toward his goal with one rider 1971. Today, Mr. Dixon continues to fulfill his promise to those with special needs. We currently serve over 350 students per week, half of whom have special needs including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism, mental retardation, and numerous other challenges
