The Delaware Business, Industry and Education Alliance (BIE Alliance) is in the business of building bridges between educators, employers and the communities they serve. Our programs use volunteers that are comfortable working with 8th grade students to help them realize the consequences of their decisions and to begin to explore career options. The goal of the CHOICES Program is to help explain some of the realities of life in an engaging, thought-provoking manner. In this way children learn more about their personnel options and can take charge of their lives. CHOICES is offered in all of the public schools in New Castle County by a team of over 100 volunteers.
Description:
The Delaware Business, Industry, Education Alliance has developed an impressive array of innovative programs serving students, educators and employers. The BIE Alliance believes the educational system, business and industry simply cannot operate in isolation. We bring business people into the schools and school personnel into business to share ideas and build practical working relationships.
History:
Since 1975 when 37 educational, business and professional organizations first met, the BIE Alliance has grown to over 500 organizations. The participants from these organizations are volunteers and they offer their time and expertise to the following projects: "What's My Line?" and "What In The World?" Career Awareness Programs; CHOICES Drop-out Prevention Program; educational Job Fair; Job Shadowing and the Teacher Externship.
