Our mission is to provide nutritious meals to the aged, convalescent, homebound and handicapped persons in our delivery area, without regard to age, gender, race, religion, nationality or ability to pay.
Description:
Meals are purchased from, and packed at Bryn Mawr Hospital and Devon Manor. Volunteers pack and deliver the meals to our patrons' homes. We provide meals to approximately 115 patrons each day. Our deliver area includes Lower Merion, Radnor, Tredyffrin, Easttown and Willistown Townships, and Narberth and Malvern Boroughs. Five routes got out from each location Monday through Friday, including holidays. Each patron receives a hot and a cold meal. Two volunteers are needed to pack at each location from about 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Two people go out on each route to deliver the meals. Some people volunteer regularly. This gives them and the patrons the opportunity to get to know each other. Some people volunteer every week, some every other week, some once a month, or just as needed to substitute. We can use volunteers no matter how much time they are able to give.
History:
Main Line Meals on Wheels was started in 1972 by some churches in the area. Since then we have incorporated as a 501(c)3 and have the two locations mentioned above. We have developed a pool of approximately 250 volunteers, but always need more. We are proud of our long-term ability to maintain a 98% program ratio.
