The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading 501(C)3 nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. To fulfill our mission, the American Diabetes Association funds research, publishes scientific findings, provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health professionals and the public. The Association is also actively involved in advocating for scientific research and for the rights of people with diabetes.

Philadelphia has been chosen as the first city to host our new fund-raising event, Step Up to Fight Diabetes. This 1 day, 10 mile walk is an event unlike any other. This physical journey will take participants all over Philadelphia - from Independence Park to City Hall, along the Schuylkill River path to the Art Museum. As an added challenge, participants will be climbing staircases throughout the city. By the end of the day, climbers will have covered over 10 miles, 100 stories and 1,000 stairs in support of the American Diabetes Association.

An event of this size could not take place without a truly dedicated group of volunteers. Sign up today to be a Step Up Volunteer (SUV) and bring us one "step" closer to making this event a success. SUV's are the strength and spirit of the event. With your help, climbers will get the hydration they want, the rest they need and the inspiration to climb the Art Museum steps.

Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching hundreds of communities.

Every 21 seconds, another American is diagnosed with diabetes. Over 20 million children and adults have the disease and nearly one third don’t know it! Those are staggering statistics and Step Up to Fight Diabetes aims to change the face of this disease. For one day, thousands of men and women will walk 10 miles of Philadelphia streets and they’ll climb 1,000 steps of city staircases.
