MISSION

Lutheran Settlement House exists
β€œto empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.”

Description:
Lutheran Settlement House's current programming integrates social, educational and advocacy services through the provision of a Bilingual Domestic Violence Program, Community Education and Employment opportunities including English as a Second Language, Literacy, Adult Basic Education, GED studies, and employment counseling and training, comprehensive Senior Services including a Senior Center and meals for fragile seniors, and Homeless Services, homeless services, which provides emergency shelter to homeless moms and kids and case management and supportive services to adults and families living in transitional and permanent supportive housing

History:
Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) was established in 1902 as a non-profit, nonsectarian, community-based organization, committed to providing a variety of services to vulnerable children, adults, and families living in inner city Philadelphia. Over the past century, as the needs of the community have changed, the nature of the organization has also gone through transformations. Yet the core mission of Lutheran Settlement House β€” "to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency" β€” lives on.
