The Mann Center for the Performing Arts is an IRS certified 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life within the community through the performing arts. This goal is achieved through the presentation of contemporary, popular and classical performances at affordable prices, including, but not limited to; orchestral and individual artist concerts, dance, theater, opera and film of the highest quality. The Board approved mission statement reflects these commitments: “The Mann Center for the Performing Arts is dedicated to cultural enrichment of the community and enhanced public awareness and enjoyment of the performing arts through the accessible presentation of popular, classical, contemporary, theatrical, operatic, dance, and educational programs.”
Description:
Beyond its artistic mission, the Mann has a strong community commitment. It is the only venue in the country to offer 90,000 free concert tickets, principally to community-based groups in the greater Philadelphia area. Moreover, in cooperation with the Philadelphia recreation department, the MCPA sponsors a growing education program that brings arts performances by children to thousands of Philadelphia school children during the summer months.
History:
The Mann Center is the Philadelphia region’s only outdoor performing arts venue dedicated to bringing diverse, high quality performing arts and educational programs to the residents of Philadelphia and the surrounding tri-State area. Erected 25 years ago and owned by the City of Philadelphia, the Mann Center building is leased on a long-term basis to the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. The Mann Center was constructed to be the summer home of the Philadelphia Orchestra. In recent years, the Mann has evolved into one of the nation’s premier outdoor venues offering classical performances from leading orchestras and dance, opera, and theater companies and a diverse popular music program of contemporary, jazz, gospel, rock and “pops” acts.
