Catholic Charities Mission:
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton, inspired by the Scriptures as reflected in Catholic Social Teaching, alleviates human suffering and improves the quality of life of individuals and families, especially the poor and vulnerable, through service, advocacy, and community building.
Emergency and Community Services Mission:
Emergency and Community Services is dedicated to the provision of high quality services & programs that seek to reduce the impact of poverty, strengthen families, and empower consumers.

Description:
Emergency and Community Services offers more than eight different anti-poverty programs to residents in Mercer, Ocean, and Burlington Counties that includes a food pantry, rent/mortgage assistance, prescription assistance, transitional housing, housing counseling, utility assistance, distribution of clothing and small household appliances, extensive case management and referral, immigration services, and job development and training. In addition to these basic services, ECS has partnered with a number of other community-based partners to deliver a plethora of programs and services that include a mobile eye center, parenting classes, ESL (English as a Second Language) and GED classes, computer training, and income tax preparation.

History:
Emergency & Community Services is one of four service areas of the agency and was founded in 1980, initially in Burlington County, as a response to the growing concern about hunger and homelessness in the community. The program extended to Mercer County in 1992 and Ocean County (Lakewood) in 1997.
The main focus of Emergency & Community Services is to ensure basic needs of those living in the community - food, clothing, and shelter - are met.
