To provide supportive programs and informational resources to young adults, between 18 and 40 years old, affected by a cancer diagnosis.
Description:
We offer monthly programs that focus on young adult cancer survivors, in the Philadelphia area. We also have various fundraisers that not only raise money for this great cause, but help spread the word about what we do. We mail out a quarterly newsletter, and keep our website as updated as possible. Currently we have about 150 individuals and about 50 organizations and hospitals on our mailing list.
History:
As a young adult Tanya Zekovitch was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in her life. Tanya was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma at age 7, and at age 23 she was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia. When she was diagnosed with leukemia she found it difficult to locate resources for young adult cancer survivors; it was at this time she decided to create a website to act as a clearing house for young adult cancer survivor resources. In December of 2004 www.CancerSurvivorsUnite.org was born. Tanya then decided to expand on this idea and start a non-profit organization that would focus on the young adult cancer population. Cancer Survivors Unite filed their Articles of Incorporation with the State of Pennsylvania on August 29th 2005. As of April 2nd 2007, we were granted tax exempt status by the IRS. We are now considered a 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit organization.
