Dress for Success Philadelphia’s mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

Description:
We are a non-profit dedicated to serving the women of Philadelphia. Through job preparation and employment retention programs and services, Dress for Success Philadelphia offers opportunities to disadvantaged women seeking to emerge from poverty—promoting economic security and self-sufficiency.

Our suiting program provides women with the clothing that they need for their interviews. Once a woman becomes employed, she can return to Dress for Success Philadelphia for up to a week's worth of clothing, working again with a personal shopper who will assist her in picking items that she can mix and match to create a number of outfits.

While we may be best known for our suiting program, the cornerstone of our mission is employment retention—namely, providing women with the tools and support they need to remain employed and to turn their jobs into rewarding careers.

Every woman who comes to Dress for Success Philadelphia is treated with dignity and respect and can walk through our doors feeling confident and welcome. We focus on helping each woman prepare for the journey ahead of her. Our concern is not where our clients have been but rather where they are going.

History:
Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help our clients find a job and remain employed. Since 1997, Dress for Success has served almost 400,000 women around the world. All Dress for Success organizations are not-for-profit entities, with Dress for Success Worldwide and its U.S. affiliates having 501(c)(3) charitable status.

Dress for Success Philadelphia has benefited from the amazing—and untiring support—of its start-up committee. Simply put, it is this group that has helped ensure that Dress for Success Philadelphia has a strong foundation from which to offer our services to women throughout the community. We view each member as a co-founder and truly appreciate their commitment to our mission.

In July 2008, Dress for Success Philadelphia opened its doors to begin serving the women of Philadelphia. Our programs transition women towards self-sufficiency by addressing their social and economic needs in relation to work, home and community. Each woman is a success story: she has gone from unemployment to economic independence.
