As a national, primarily residential, training program, Job Corps' mission is to attract eligible young adults, teach them the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful careers or further education.

Description:
STARS directly supports the New Vision for Job Corps. STARS' speakers, mentors and tutors support students in succeeding in a program with more rigorous academic and career technical requirements. These volunteers assist students with knowing and being able to demonstrate the Career Success Standards. In addition, STARS enhances on-center services and community support for students.

History:
Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 begin a meaningful career and take control of their personal and professional lives. At Job Corps, students enroll to learn a career technical trade, earn a high school diploma or GED, prepare for college, and receive help to begin their professional careers. Funded by Congress, Job Corps has been training young adults for meaningful careers since 1964. Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe, drug-free environment where they can take advantage of the resources provided.
