We seek to enrich and empower all individuals through the use of technology. To this end, the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library Computer Lab fosters information technology literacy through classroom instruction and addresses the computing needs of the public by providing access to the Internet, productivity software, and electronic resources.
Description:
The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library(MC-NPL), a gateway to lifelong learning, provides convenient access to resources that inform, educate, entertain, and enrich people’s lives. We will be an integral part of all that happens in our communities and county. Peoples’ lives will improve because they have convenient, expanded access to quality library services and resources.
History:
The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library is a non-profit corporation 501(c)(3) supported by appropriations from Montgomery County Commissioners Municipal Government, Norristown Area School District, and additional income is derived from bequests, grants, gifts, fines and fees. The Library's roots go back to 1794 and the founding of the "Norristown Library Company" by 90 families residing in Lower Merion, Norriton, Plymouth, Providence, Whitemarch, Whitpain and Worcester Townships. One of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Thomas Mckean, signed the charter issued in March 1796, when the Library was formally incorporated. The Lab was initially funded in 2002 by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with an additional grant for furnishings and Lab construction from the estate of
Norristown Resident Lillian Smith Marx.
