Aid For Friends provides free meals and friendly visiting to the isolated and homebound across the 5 county Greater Philadelphia area. The organization serves 2200 shut-ins at this time, 60% of those shut-ins reside in Philadelphia. Volunteers pick up 7 frozen dinners from a local freezer site, deliver once a week at a time convenient for them, and spend some time chatting with that person.

History:
Aid For Friends was founded in 1974 by Rita Ungaro-Schiavone who is the Founder and Executive Director today. The agency has one office in Northeast Philadelphia but has 250 freezer sites across the Delaware Vally, usually in Churches or Synagogues. An estimated 16,500 volunteers cook, visit, drive and coordinate the program across the 5 counties.
