The mission of the Kennett Symphony of Chester County is to present a wide range of symphonic music to entertain and enrich the lives of our audience; educate young audiences; and provide opportunities for young artists and capable musicians to perform.

Description:
The Kennett Symphony of Chester County is an all-professional orchestra that has been in the Greater Brandywine area for over 66 years. Mary Woodmansee Green has served as Music Director and Conductor for the past 19 years.

The Orchestra performs six public performances (five season concerts and our Annual Children’s Concert) at venues throughout Chester County including Longwood Gardens Open Air Theatre, Emilie K. Asplundh Hall at West Chester University, and the Kennett High School Auditorium.
In addition to our public performances, the Orchestra also holds two annual instrumental and vocal performance competitions and we are the parent organization of the Kennett Symphony’s Children’s Chorus for student vocalists, ages six through eighteen.

History:
The Kennett Symphony was founded as a volunteer orchestra (previously known as the Kennett Symphony Orchestra Association) in 1940 by Dr. Duer Reynolds and Ray Lyman Ott. Over 65 seasons, the Orchestra evolved from a volunteer association to an orchestra composed wholly of area professionals. Throughout the history of the Orchestra, the purpose has remained to provide an opportunity for the residents of southeastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware and northern Maryland, to hear live symphonic music and to encourage young musicians and tomorrow’s audiences with an extensive outreach program.
