To achieve excellence in the rehabilitation of injured, orphaned and oiled native wild birds, with the goal of returning healthy birds to their natural environment. Volunteers provide care and proper habitat for injured, orphaned or wild native birds. We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In the busy summer season of baby birds, we need volunteers to help feed and care for 100's of baby birds that are brought to our center.

Description:
Tri-State Bird Rescue rehabilitates over 2,500 wild native birds each year, in addition to responding to oil spills that effect wildlife, nationally and internationally. At our center in Newark, Delaware, we care for injured or orphaned wild birds, so that they may be released healthy and back into the wild. We provide care for all wild birds, from hummingbirds to bald eagles.

History:
Tri-State Bird Rescue will treat over 2,500 injured or orphaned wild birds this year, as well as animals that have been affected by oil spills. The majority of these animals will have been injured as a direct result of human-related activities. In December 1976, the Liberian tanker Olympic Games ran aground in the Delaware River, making it the 6th major oil spill in the Northeast United States in a three year period. During the Olympic Games oil spill, oiled Canada geese were found walking on roadways, three miles inland attempting to find open water. Despite the efforts of many people, many animals died in these spills. Tri-State Bird Rescue was established that winter for the purpose of establishing a multi-displinary team of wildlife biologists, veterinarians, pathologists, chemists and concerned citizens.
In response to community need, Tri-State began operating a full-time wildlife rehabilitation/research center in Delaware in 1982. The Frink Center for Wildlife, is one of the largest rehabilitation facilities in the country and consists of a wild bird clinic complete with animal care wards, a surgery area, administrative offices and an oiled bird treatment annex.
