CASA of Philadelphia County's mission is to provide screened, trained and supervised volunteers who advocate for safe, permanent, and nurturing homes for abused and neglected children under the protection of Philadelphia's Family Court.
Description:
CASA trains volunteers who are then appointed by a judge in Family Court to represent the best interests of children before the court. CASA volunteers serve as the "eyes and ears of the court" by providing a detailed investigation of each child's situation and recommendations to the court to aid the judge in making permanency planning decisions. Each CASA volunteer receives 30 hours of training and observes in court before being assigned to a case.
History:
CASA of Philadelphia County was established in July 2005. In November 2005 we trained our first class of volunteers.
