To promote better understanding of the historic and continuing influences of Swedish people on the cultural, economic, social and political development of the US.
Description:
Twelve beautiful permanent galleries, each an outstanding example of 20th century Swedish interior design. The rooms and their furnishings were created by Swedish and Swedish American craftsmen in a variety of styles from art-deco to international. The history of the New Sweden Colony, the story of Swedish immigration to the United States, an interior of a traditional Swedish farmhouse or stuga, with its Dala painted ceiling and traditional corner fireplace, spectacular art glass by Orrefors glassworks, models by John Ericsson, inventor of the U.S.Monitor, paintings and sculptures by Anders Zorn, Carl Eldh, Carl Milles and Carl Larsson. Colorful tapestries and murals bring the past to life.
