Kingsessing-based agency that operates a community organizing group, community art center, congregate and home delivered meal programs, food assistance, afterschool tutoring, computer skills training program and senior citizens activities.
Description:
Our philosophy of service emphasizes both the self-worth of each individual and the identification and coordination of community resources to address community issues. Recognizing the importance of community involvement, a majority of SCEC's staff, board and volunteers are local residents. SCEC's current programs, housed in three row houses in the Kingsessing community, serve approximately 400 adults, children, and senior citizens each week.
History:
Founded in 1969 by local residents and clergy. Southwest Community Enrichment Center (SCEC) is a not-for profit, community-based human service organization that provides a broad range of services to the residents of the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia.
